My grandfather was a doctor at the time and asisted with the disaster saving lives
This is an amazing report, I’ve just found it. My father was a Welshman, I’m sure he worked at this pit and was a lift operator and he told me when I was a child about this explosion and how he frantically tried to get the cage up but the blast took him off his feet and blew him 20/30 yards across the top and all his teeth were smashed out. A huge tragedy. He lost friends here and knew many people who lost family members. My fathers name was Freddie Green. Many thanks. Rose
is there a memorial of this disaster?
hi Elaine apologies for the late reply we have only recently taken over the running of the page . there is a minors memorial garden at the bottom of cwm not far from the location of the old pit site , which has a statue of a minor and the names of the minors that died in the disaster. Thanks for the interest
